Ridgeway Students Get Help from Manchester Manor

Rainforest display

Mrs. Robyn Pilcher’s students have finished their unit on the Rainforest, which included creating a display in the hallway.  This year they had help from Bonnie McAuliffe and Joyce Larson from the Manchester Manor nursing home, who came and set up a beautiful Rainforest display outside of the classroom. The students each made an animal for their book report, which are now hanging among the display. A resident of Manchester Manor, Helen Montez, also created some snakes and frogs for the display.

The staff at Manchester Manor also donated $1,000 to Ridgeway School.  Shawne Mimna presented a check to Principal Diane Pedroza.  Mimna said that the facility always does a yearly fundraiser during National Nursing Home Week, usually for the cancer society or some other national organization, but this year they decided they wanted to make a difference locally and chose Ridgeway School for their donation.

Pedroza was surprised by the donation.  “This is so generous, thank you so much on behalf of our students,” she said.

McAuliffe has a granddaughter at Ridgeway and Larson has a daughter there.  Both of them are in 5th grade now, but were in Mrs. Pilcher’s class when they were in 3rd grade. This is the second year the two have helped with the rainforest display.
